The Savvy Bump is a blog dedicated to helping pregnant women and moms find great deals on maternity, baby, and toddler items. You will also find lots of money saving tips, freebies, and helpful articles about pregnancy, babies and motherhood.
Hi! I’m Alisha, also known as Mommy. Sometimes I forget I have a real name but I do! I’m married to my best friend, whom I met in college. It took us 10 years to get married but he just wouldn’t give up until I said “yes”. I was pregnant before our first anniversary (the fertility clock was ticking) and I’m still amazed by the beautiful baby we made together.
That beautiful baby is now a 3 year old who talks non-stop, makes us laugh, whines a little more than I’d like, and is the best thing that has ever happened to us. We are also expecting a new baby girl in December, 2014 and feel very blessed!
Why I Started Blogging
Before my third trimester of pregnancy back in 2010, I was an elementary teacher and loved my job. When I was about 6 months pregnant, I was unexpectedly laid off because the private school I was teaching at had a big decline in enrollment due to the state of the economy. We still hadn’t figured out what to do about childcare so I considered the turn of events to be the solution to our problem! I became a stay-at-home mom overnight and as you can imagine finances were tight.
Because we quite suddenly became a one-income family, we had to make some major changes. We were already paying off credit card debt and putting money into savings but we had to do more. We started organizing our finances with Mint.com and still do today. We created a new budget, canceled the cable, moved, looked at all our bills one by one and trimmed everything we could – and I got really good at finding deals and coupons to stretch our dollar.
I’ve actually always loved finding and sharing deals. After my hubby and I got engaged, we decided to plan a budget wedding and I was even
bragging about sharing the deals I scored while getting ready to walk down the aisle. One of my bridesmaids told me, “It’s rude to talk about how much you paid for things!” and my other bridesmaid interjected saying, “No, that’s just how Alisha is! She loves finding good deals and sharing them!”. I think it’s obvious which friend knew me better!
I really love being a stay-at-home mom but I am also the type that needs a project. Something to challenge me, keep me learning, and use as an excuse to not clean and cook all day. So I decided to start a blog that would specifically help pregnant women (hence the name The Savvy Bump) as well as moms find great baby deals, coupons, freebies, money saving tips and helpful parenting resources. It’s a work in progress that I hope will be able to help more and more families as time goes by.
Random Facts About Me
Now that you know the basics, here are some random facts about me.
- Travel deals are my first passion. I’ve been to Paris twice on a shoestring budget and that was incredible.
- We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and drove down to Hana, Maui one day. After loudly making fun of my husband for being a chicken about jumping into the Seven Sacred Pools, I slipped and belly-flopped in front of a large number of fellow tourists and my husband has a photo to prove it.
- When I was a kid, I always said I wanted to be a lawyer.
- I didn’t start cooking until I was pregnant and I’m not that great at it so I rely on my mom for help.
- I had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on my baby when she was 7 months old. Please take Infant CPR!
- It took me a full year to lose my baby weight and I am totally okay with that.
I truly hope that I help you save money and if I do, I’d love to hear from you in a comment or an email! You can also contact me anytime if you have a deal tip or a question.
